Fight the cold weather with radiant floor heating in your home

red hr line

Radiant floor heating is gaining quick popularity amongst the home owners particularly living in the colder regions of the world. The cold floor below the feet can be a real pain when the temperature of the environment is already low; the cold floor seems to suck away all the heat from your body. The purpose of radiant floor heating is to keep your floors warm, throughout, so that no matter the temperature drop in the weather, the floor of your rooms still continues to feel comfortable and warm beneath the feet.  The best thing about the radiant floor heating systems is that you do not need to spend a lot to get the system installed in your home. The other flexibility of this system is that, you can also install the heating system only in a particular room according to your choice if budget is a constraint.

How does it work?

As the name suggest, the radiant floor heating works by radiating the heat up through the floor. In this case, panels for heating are installed under the floor and the heat generated from these panels is radiated across the room, giving a naturally comfortable environment. Radiant heating does not consume a lot of energy, in fact they are power saving and a clean way of keeping your home warm even in the worst winters. The basic difference in the working of the traditional room heating systems and the radiant floor heating is that in this case the heat comes out of the floor and warms up the whole room evenly.

Radiant floor heating are commonly installed in bathrooms, kitchens and basements where you need to spend time standing on your feet and using a carpet on the floor is not always a good option. However, these floor heating systems can be installed in any room of your choice, irrespective of its size or other features.

The types

There are two different types of radiant floor heating systems that are commonly used in households depending on a number of factors, including the type of flooring in the room in which you are planning to install the system. Both these types have their own pros and cons and you need to pick one according to your specific requirements. The types are,

Hydronic floor heating systems: In this case loops of flexible tubing are embedded across the floor of the room and hot water from a boiler is pumped through these tubing. This ensures a very even heat distribution across the floor which heats up the air of the room evenly. Hydronic systems are efficient in serving the purpose and they cost less than other types. The con with hydronic floor heating systems is that, in this case the laying of the tubing might be critical and there is always a risk of rupture in tubing in the long run.

Electrical floor heating systems: In this case insulated electrical wearing is used for keeping the floor heated. Here the installation and maintenance both are easy and involves less risk. However the problem with electrical floor heating systems is that in this case you will be spending electricity continuously for keeping the floor warm.

To get the best desired end results it is really important that you opt for a solution that meets all your needs. To get the right idea about the right type of radiant floor heating solution for your home it is best suggested to talk with a professional first before taking any decision. The radiant floor heating is a clean way and it can even help in minimizing allergies.
