The Best Eco-Friendly Flooring Options

red hr line

Staying close to the nature is the new trend of the day. Though it may not be possible for everyone to stay in the arms of nature you can absolutely do your bit for it by using eco-friendly items in your daily life. If you can use eco-friendly clothing, food products and save energy on electricity, why not invest into eco-friendly flooring? Unlike yesteryears the eco-friendly floorings are now quite vibrant and they come with a lot of options to make your home look really good. They may be a bit expensive compared to general flooring but they are worth investing in.

Why Eco-friendly Flooring Is Necessary?

There are several reasons which make it inevitable to use eco-friendly flooring. One of the major reason is the pollution factor that is quite big indoor. Even if you don’t know the popular caused inside your home is often as much as the outside pollution and that can be removed or reduced with green flooring options.

Some Of The Best Green Flooring Ideas

Cork: Cork is harvested in Mediterranean forest. This is a new material in flooring but it is becoming widely popular with passing time. The material is good as flooring option due to its natural appeal and anti-microbial properties which reduces the allergens in your home thus keeping it safe. The flooring comes in different quality and that determines its longevity. It varies from 10-30 years. They can be finished according to the décor of the home.

Glass Tiles: Glass is always a good option in flooring as it does not absorb anything and resists mold and mildews. The glass that is used for the flooring and tiles are all recycled so you are saving some resources of the nature for sure. Apart from that glass flooring reflects light which provides the lighting benefits to some rooms that don’t have much of it.

Bamboo: Bamboo is another option that can replace hardwood flooring. They are not only hard and durable but the fact that they grow within quite a short period of time makes them a better choice. The other woods take 20 years to grow while bamboo takes only 2 to 3 years. This is one of the major reasons why it is called eco-friendly and the use of bamboo is increasing in many sectors for the same reason.

Concrete: Concrete though may not be that green in appeal it is so durable that you don’t need to replace the flooring ever. So there is no depreciation cost associated with this type of flooring which makes it friendly to natural resource conservation.

Wool Carpet: Wood carpets are natural and they are always good to walk on. You can imagine any color and the wool can be died in the color of your choice. They not only look good but are quite lasting too.

Leather: Leather flooring is quite surprising to hear but they are quite natural in look and appeal. The part of leather used for the flooring is thicker than the parts that are used to make belts, bags and other items. These leathers are refined in such a way that they last quite long.

Rubber:  When the floor is made from recycled rubber then natural resources are saved. The flooring is water resistant and thus they are found on field and gym areas. Soon they are catching up the kitchen and bathroom of the modern homes.

Reclaimed Hardwood: Hardwood floors may not be a good green flooring option due to the deforestation issue related to it but it can surely become one if the wood is reclaimed or is chopped long time back.

Most of the eco-friendly options are not as costly as homeowners may think. You can choose one that suits your requirement.
