Tile Flooring: All that you need to know

red hr line

Tile flooring is a versatile flooring option and has gained great popularity among homeowners. Ceramic tiles have been in use for ages however, latest manufacturing techniques have added new look and design to them. They are relatively easy to install and do not emit any harmful fumes. It is durable and this makes it largely popular as it is a value for money. Also, any home with tile flooring Calgary has a better resale value.

Important qualities of tile flooring

Tile is made up of clay and mineral bound with water and other binding agents. It has a ceramic coating which gives it color and finish. It is durable and if it installed with care it lasts long and outperforms other types of flooring. It is easy to clean and maintain. Tiles can be easily cleaned with a mop or sponge. However, to ensure that the grout is dirt free one must undertake regular cleaning. Tiles are resistant to stains and odors. Some of the higher grades are even scratch resistant which means you don’t need to worry about any scratches that furniture might leave. These qualities make tiles easy to maintain and light on the pocket with respect to the maintenance cost.

Laying a tile floor

Laying a tile floor is not very tough and you can save the cost of professional service by taking up the task on your own. Make sure you have the necessary tools and other material with you. Measure the floor carefully so that you know exactly how many tiles will be needed to cover your room. It is wise to buy a few extra tiles to account for any errors, breakage or replacement in future. Make sure that the sub floor is flat and properly leveled. Tile should never be installed directly on wooden sub floor. Use a good quality adhesive to fix the tile. While you work make sure you do not step on the freshly laid tile as it might get damaged. Keep checking the alignment as you lay the tile to make sure that they are in a straight line and are properly leveled. If you need to cut the tiles then get tile nippers or use a handheld grinder. After the tiles are laid apply grout at the joints and allow it set. After it has been left to set for few minutes, remove the excess with a damp sponge.

Pros and Cons of tile flooring

A tile flooring not only adds to the aesthetic value of a home but also adds to its resale value. The beauty of tile does not fade away with time and simple dusting and vacuuming is needed for its maintenance. Tiles are a popular choice for kitchen and bathroom as they are water resistant. If the grout is sealed properly then they are the best when it comes to withstanding water and moisture. Tile floor has a number of advantages but also a few disadvantages. If you are looking for a flooring that provides insulation then tiles are not your cup of tea. However, you can use rugs or runners to counter this. Tiles can sometimes get slippery when water is spilled over them. However, latest technologies have been used to create anti-slip tiles.

Tile flooring is a cost-effective way of adding value to your home. It is a smart choice for any homeowner looking to add beauty and elegance to their home. Installation is a little challenging but by following the instructions properly it can be a DIY-project.
