The 7 Different Types of Carpet for Your Home

red hr line

Carpet is a widely used flooring material in bedrooms, kid’s play areas, home offices, basements, and stairs. It is true that carpets can make a huge difference in your home, but it does not mean that all types of carpet will be equally good for your home. Different types of carpets are made in different ways. So you have to choose a carpet that is high-quality and fits perfectly with the décor of your home. It doesn’t only need to come with a comfortable body but also good performance and appearance.

There are several types of carpets made from different fibres. You have to smartly pick the one you want to install in your home. let’s take a look at some of the most common options that you can choose from when you are aiming to enhance the look of your home:

  • Frieze

This is the most popular type of carpet these days. These carpets bounce back well and give the look of two yarn colours in some cases. Also, they hide vacuum marks and footprints much better than other carpet types due to their higher twist level. Most of the carpets have 3.5-5 twists or turns per inch, whereas this carpet type has 7 to 9 twists per inch.

  • Velvet Plush

This carpet type gives a luxurious look to rooms where it is installed. These soft carpets are perfect for modern and elegant homes. Dense, rich, and beautiful, these velvet carpets are made with firmly twisted tufts. It is undoubtedly a high-quality choice, but it is worth noting that it’s installation plays a major role in determining the final look of the carpet. If this carpet is not installed correctly, some of its parts may look crushed, which is called ‘pooling’ or ‘watermarking’. So make sure you hire experienced professionals for this job to prevent this from happening.

  • Pattern & Level Loop

Pattern and loop carpets are manufactured by weaving loops of fibre together. Level loop carpets have loops of the same height, whereas patterned carpets have loops with slight height differences which add texture to the carpet.

  • Saxony Pile

These carpets are soft and luxurious, and are woven together densely. They are made from 100 percent nylon with the pile being half an inch. They are a popular choice for elegant living rooms and bedrooms. Saxony carpets offer a comfortable underfoot and are considered high-quality and luxurious.

  • Berber

Berber carpets are also very popular. They are available in many varieties and fibres to choose from. These carpets are highly durable, versatile, spill resistant, cost-effective, and comfortable beneath your feet. If you need a durable and affordable carpet, then your best bet is to find what type of Berber carpet is available. Its densely woven fibres are known for repelling debris and dirt much more efficiently than some other types of carpet. Also, Berber carpet’s low pile height makes sure that you don’t notice matting in high-traffic areas.

  • Cut-Pile Berber

This is another great option to consider if you’re looking for durability. These carpets feature a strategic cut of the fibre loops that are created in the weaving process. These loops have the same height and are allowed to tuft slightly. This gives the carpet a soft appearance. As a result, cut-pile Berber carpets look very dense and offer a cushion for the foot. The best thing is that these carpets come with the benefits of Berber carpeting.

  • Shag

These carpets have started gaining popularity again recently. The piles of these carpets are much deeper than other types, which gives them a soft and shaggy appearance.
