Why Pet Owners Love Tile Flooring

red hr line

Pet owners face special challenges when it comes to floor care. If you are looking for a good choice for your flooring, tile floors offer hundreds of styles in hand with optimum durability ideal for pets. Here’s why pet owners love tile flooring for their homes.

Low Maintenance

First and foremost tile flooring is extremely low maintenance. Especially if you go with something like porcelain, you have a low pore, hard to stain flooring choice. A mop and water make short work of any unexpected pet accidents, and best of all, tile floors don’t absorb smells like carpet or hardwood.

Stain Resistant Grout

Grouts of the past tended to stain and discolor over time. However, today’s grout is made with stain-resistant technology that keeps it looking clean with less cracking and dirt.

Hair Free and Carefree

Tile is not like carpeting that clings to pet hair and dander. Instead, the hair will simply sit on top of the tile allowing you to easily sweep it away or vacuum it up leaving nothing behind.

Stain Resistant

You can choose from a wide variety of tile floors that will be completely stain resistant. Even if your pet has an accident when you are away from home, it won’t absorb into the floor like it would with hardwood or carpet. Even laminate can allow for the mess to seep below, leading to extremely hard to clean odors.

Scratch Resistant

Most hard surface floors are prone to scratches. Not so with many types of tile flooring. Today’s tiles are designed to remain durable even against scratches from over rambunctious pets. Wood is infamous for claw related scratches, while carpeting can fray from ongoing tugging, chewing, and clawing. In fact, porcelain tile is between 7 and 9 on the hardness scale compared to a diamond’s rating of 10. That’s pretty tough!

Free of Chemicals and Off-Gassing

A big concern for homeowners today is finding flooring, décor and other design products that won’t introduce dangerous toxins into the home. There are lots of harmful chemicals released from vinyl, carpet and laminate not found in many tile products. While many flooring companies are trying to reduce the release of these “VOCs” tile floors already offer less risk.

Patterns Camouflage Pet Messes

Pet paws and coats tend to make it challenging to keep floors clean. You can choose a tile floor that offers an interesting pattern that is not only attractive but also helps camouflage all those paw prints and pet hair. This reduces how often you have to sweep and wash your floors.

Thermal Floors

Since your four-legged companion spends a lot of time on the floor, you want to keep them as comfortable as possible. While your first choice might be carpet, you know this will prove to be a maintenance and pet odor disaster. However, tile flooring allows you to add radiant heating to keep the surface warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This is pure heaven for your pets, not to mention your toes.

While tiling might not be your first thought for rooms other than the kitchen or bathroom, if you have pets, it could be your ideal choice. You’ll be surprised how many of the latest tile flooring trends can beautify any room.
