Top Floor Tiles You Need in Your Home

red hr line

When you’re creating your dream house, one of the most important decisions you have to make is regarding the flooring material. You have to answer several questions like: Which type of flooring would be best for your bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and so on? Whether to opt for ceramic tiles or porcelain tiles? Which type would more durable? And many other similar questions.

Tiles are a popular choice of many homeowners across the globe, and offer a wide range of advantages. They have the ability to outlast all other flooring materials, and keep your home cool and nice in the hot months. Floor tiles are definitely a good investment and will always increase your home’s value.

Floor tiles are:

  • Cost-effective
  • Water-resistant
  • Low-maintenance
  • Highly durable
  • Easy to clean
  • Environment friendly
  • Non-allergenic
  • Available in a huge variety of style and colours.

But with such a huge range of flooring tiles to choose from, how would one know where to start?

Tile floorings are made from a variety of materials like stone, clay, metal, quartz, and terrazzo. All types of tile floors have their own characteristics and you have match these characteristics to style, size, and budget of the area in which you have to get them installed.

We’ve listed down the top tile flooring types below to help you narrow down your choices:

1. Ceramic Tiles

These are made from clay material which is mined, prepared, and then shaped into a mould. Ceramic tiles are best characterized as porcelain and non-porcelain. Porcelain tiles are usually extruded and have lesser impurities as compared to non-porcelain ceramic tiles. As porcelain clay is less porous and denser than ceramic clay, it makes porcelain tiles comparatively harder and more resistant to moisture than non-porcelain ceramic tiles. Porcelain tiles are therefore considered more durable and suitable for high moisture and heavy traffic areas.

Non-porcelain ceramic tiles, on the other hand, have their own advantages too. They’re one of the most reasonably prices tiles to install in your home and are about 40% cheaper than porcelain tiles. They are also easier to install and if you’re planning to do tiling yourself, these tiles are probably the most convenient option.

2. Marble Tiles

These tiles are one of the most durable tiles to exist and are available in almost every colour. Marble tiles have various finishes ranging from tumbled to polished to brushed, making it an ideal choice for any area of your home. Being a natural stone, these tiles offer high value and elegance to your house. However, they are a bit costly and high maintenance.

3. Slate

This metaphoric rock is being used in flooring since centuries. It is available in a wide range of colours like grey/blue, orange, brown, and red. There are mostly coloured veins running through the tile due to which no tile is alike. Slate flooring is slip-resistant even when it’s greasy or wet, making it an ideal one for bathrooms, kitchens, and pool area. It is also highly durable and one can use it to keep rooms warm or cool with under-tile circulating systems.

4. Faux Wood

Faux wood floors are one of the most trending floors these day, offering durability along with the beauty of wood. While these tiles look like wood, they are actually made of ceramic and come with advantages of being more water-resistant and durable than hardwood, and free from termite risk. Another benefit of these floors is that they require little maintenance and offer a wide range of design options.

5. Granite

Granite tiles are very dense and hard, and have a very distinctive appearance. These tiles have speckled minerals and unique veins running throughout, which means that no two granite tiles are similar.  Granite floors, once polished, are highly scratch-resistant which makes them an ideal choice for high -traffic areas.
