How to choose a flooring color to compliment the space

red hr line

The floor is a major portion of any room and so its look and feel greatly affects how beautiful the room looks. Apart from the type of flooring that you choose another very important factor is the color of the flooring. When the color is chosen after sufficient planning, it can help in creating an ambience full of luxury and comfort. However, if one does not pay sufficient attention then the room might end up looking bizarre. Flooring color selection is not rocket science and one does not need to be an expert to be able to do this right. A little contemplation and small amount of research, probably on the internet will prove to be very helpful and guarantee best results.

Importance of samples:

When you are going out to purchase flooring for your home, you will definitely have some idea about which shades you want to pick up. If you are going without any idea at all then you might end up making a wrong choice. So, make sure you have thought out a little as to what flooring material and which shade you want to go for. The choice of shade solely depends on the color of walls, furniture and the draperies that you have used in the room. Once you are at the store spend a little money on buying samples. Pick a few samples and limit them to a maximum of three so that you don’t end up getting confused. Check the samples in sunlight and also under artificial light during the night. This will give you a better idea as to how the flooring will look and how it will gel with your room. Keep the samples besides furniture and the adjoining floor to get a clear picture.

Get more and more ideas:

Home décor magazines and internet are a huge repository of ideas. Before you set out to buy flooring for your home get a few ideas and then plan your purchase. For those who have the creative genius within themselves they can think of a picturesque beauty with the right color combinations. However, not everyone is that creative when it comes to interior decoration and so one can take the assistance of magazines and the internet. Browse through the plethora of pictures available on the internet and you will surely get some idea and you will know which color will be best suited for your home.

A few handy tips:

If you are selecting a wall-to-wall carpet then look for shade that is present in your draperies or upholsteries. If you wish to make the room feel cozy then you can opt for a darker shade. However, if your priority is to make the room look more spacious then you should go with lighter colors. If you have west-facing rooms then go for cooler colors as they won’t make the room feel very warm. If you have children at your home or you own pets and you have carpet flooring, then carpets with dark colored patterns can be a savior sometimes as they help in hiding spills and other stains.

The most important factor to consider while choosing a flooring color is to understand how it will complement the already existing furniture and draperies. If you do not want to commit to any particular color then it is best to go with neutral shades. In high traffic areas neutral colors can also help in covering up the dirt.
