red hr line

Your home carpet is one of the important floor accessories as well as décor elements for the interiors. Carpets and rugs help you adorn the rooms as well as provide comfort to you and your loved ones. Each carpet has something unique about it. Whether it is made up of nylon, acrylic, polyester or the natural varieties, each has its own distinct strength and weakness.

If you are wondering what would be the right choice of fiber for your home carpet, it is important to understand the different types of fibers that are used. Each fiber has different properties attached to it and reacts differently to its environment. An in depth understanding of the carpet will help you in deciding which the best fiber for your carpet is.

Both synthetic as well as natural fibers are used in the carpets Calgary. Synthetic carpets are more common and popular! They are more stain-resistant and comparatively less expensive. However, natural fiber is better in terms of the comfort they offer and their life span. However, they are more expensive and easily get stained.

The top fibers used for home carpets include the following:

Acrylic

Man-made wool or acrylic is one of the common carpet fibers in use. It looks and feels like wool; however, it is an inexpensive alternative to it. It is resistant to easy damage and electricity, fading, crushing, moisture, development of molds and mildew or staining. It can be used at home, mostly in your family room.

Nylon

It is another variety of synthetic fibers; however, it is very durable. It stands the test of time and offers top resistance to easy wear and tear. It does not insects, molds, mildew or chemicals damage the carpet.

It is one of the best fibers in use and does not undergo quick abrasion as well. It does not get soiled, stained or damaged easily. It accounts for roughly 90% of residential carpet usage and around 65% of business usage.

It is comparatively less expensive to the natural fibers but slightly costlier than acrylic and other synthetic fibers.

Olefin Or Polypropylene

Olefin (polypropylene) closely follows nylon in being a favorite for home and business owners. Businesses love to use this fiber for their carpets. They account for nearly 80% of the total carpet fibers used in the commercial sector. It is resistant to easy damage and is best for heavy traffic areas such as office reception, hotel lounge etc.

They are resistant to abrasion, mildew and moisture. They can be cleaned easily and require less maintenance. They are not very expensive and stand the test of time.

Blends

Nylon and Olefin are used to create blends used for carpets. Blends are fibers resistant to easy damage and staining. However, one can find the stain stand out from them because of the use of different fibers.

Wool

Wool is the natural fiber popular the world over. It is used for its soft touch and density that it offers to luxurious carpets and rugs. Woolen carpets are stain resistant and durable. They are among the expensive varieties and are used in luxurious homes and apartments, hotels, plush resorts etc.

One can dye wool in many colors. They look elegant and stunning at the same time. However, since they are natural products, they are attacked by moths and other insects.

Polyester

Polyester is preferred variety of fiber in many places and commercial set ups. They do not work that well in high traffic areas; however, they are resilient to abrasion, water soluble stains and can be cleaned with little effort. They give a luxurious feel at a lesser price as compared to wool. However, polyester carpets can get damaged and lose color if exposure to sunlight.
