Pros and Cons of Vinyl Tiles as Floors

red hr line

You are probably looking to renovate your home. You may be moving to a new home. Or else, you may be constructing a new home. Whatever the reason behind a new flooring option is, you should consider the pros and cons of the type of floor you want in your home. Vinyl tiles are easily the most popular options currently in the market. There are many reasons why they are so popular – costs, maintenance, and variety. But there are some cons to the flooring material too. In this guide, the main pros and cons of vinyl tiles are detailed out to help you decide whether to choose them or not.

To Begin with
Vinyl is available in sheets and tiles. So you can choose sheets to cover a larger area or tiles for covering a smaller area. Vinyl is inexpensive and offers your great value.

Pros of Vinyl Tiles
There are many points that go into the favor of vinyl tiles that make them the economically and stylish flooring option for any home.

Colors and Options – Vinyl tiles are available in endless array of designs and colors. It doesn't matter  whether you want to have a floor that looks like hardwood or stone tiles in your home. In other terms, you could install a floor that looks exactly like hardwood but doesn’t cost anywhere near the real thing. Your guests will almost never be able to tell.

Moisture Resistant – Vinyl flooring is highly resistant to moisture. This means you can also install them in the kitchen and bathroom. You could also install vinyl tiles over the subfloor or over a floor with lots of cracks.

Easy to Clean – This is perhaps one of the biggest advantages to vinyl tiles. Once you have installed them, all you have to do is ensure occasional sweeping and mopping. There is no need to do anything else. Hardwood floors will require polishing and carpet floors will require deep cleaning once in a few months.

Cons of Vinyl Tiles
Vinyl flooring has so many advantages, but not without a few cons. Just like any other flooring option, vinyl tiles also have their fair share of setbacks.

Vinyl is Softer Underneath – Vinyl has certain spongy characteristics and if anything sharp drops onto the floor, there is a good chance that the object could damage the surface. Besides, all furniture will have to have pads on their feet. You cannot move furniture without causing some scratches to a vinyl floor.

New Vinyl Emits Gases – Vinyl is made using processes and materials that emit VOC into the air. New technologies are being developed to get around this problem. So make sure to choose vinyl tiles which have low-VOC emissions. If you have someone in the family with respiratory problems, it is recommended to avoid these floors.

Dirt on the Seams – Make sure that your vinyl flooring is properly installed and dirt cannot enter the seams. With new installation systems, this is no longer the problem with vinyl tiles.

Consider all these pros and cons before you choose vinyl tiles for your home. Because these flooring options are already inexpensive, it is recommended to choose high quality tiles to enjoy longevity and lower maintenance.
