SUSTAINABILITY TOWARDS FLOORING TRENDS

red hr line

When you’re choosing a new flooring for you home you get excited when you see various flooring options available. Make sure to keep latest flooring trends in mind before you take a final decision, as they’ll help you invest in the right flooring.

One popular and ever-lasting trend in flooring industry is the use of sustainable flooring materials. Some people think that sustainable flooring cannot be functional, affordable, or stylish. However, this isn’t the case in present time.

Many new developments in sustainable flooring materials have made them aesthetically pleasing as well as environment friendly. Today, many companies are manufacturing sustainable floorings that perfectly match your home décor and needs.

There are several trends in sustainable flooring, and you must be looking for the one that best meets you flooring needs. To help you in taking your decision, we’ve listed down some flooring types that will meet your needs along with meeting sustainability goals.

  •   Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring

It is a great choice for those looking for a wood floor but are conscious of hardwood flooring’s impact on environment.  Luxury vinyl floors have become increasingly popular over the last few years and are offered by many flooring companies. These floors look similar to hardwood floors and are comprised to multiple layers. They’re eco-friendly along with being highly durable and do not require much maintenance.

  • Ceramic Tile Flooring

This type of flooring is counted among most sustainable flooring options. Ceramic tile is made up of stone, clay, and other components and is available in various colors and finishing styles. These floors are long-lasting if properly installed and taken care of. One major concern with this flooring type is grout, which is used to fill the gap between the ceramic tiles. Grout may change color over time and make your floor look unsightly. So, to maintain your floor’s look, it is important to keep grout clean and refill it after every 1 to 2 years.

  • Linoleum

Linoleum is an eco-friendly flooring material that constitutes of wood flour, pigments, resins, and linseed oil. This linseed oil hardens the linoleum over time.

A drawback of this flooring is that it requires high maintenance. If not taken care properly, various issues can arise in linoleum flooring. However, you can avoid damages by following a few precautionary measure. For example, high alkaline cleaners shouldn’t be used on these floors as they react with linseed oil and lead to damages. We would also recommend to discuss a floor maintenance program with your contractors when installing linoleum flooring in your home.

  • Cork and Bamboo Flooring

Both these flooring materials are sustainable green options for your flooring needs. They are available in a wide variety of styles and finishes from which you can easily choose one according to your requirements and home decor.

Cork and bamboo floorings are a great alternative to hardwood flooring as they can provide a much similar look. However, both these flooring types require high maintenance and come with their own maintenance programs.

  • Carpet Tiles (Recycled Content)

This type of flooring incredibly eco-friendly as it is mostly constituted of nylon which contains about 10 to 80 percent recycled content. Carpet tiles are available in various sizes and shapes and create considerably less waste as compared to traditional carpet rolls.

Another advantage of these floors is that they can be easily installed. Also, in case a tile gets cracked or damaged, it can be easily removed and replaced.

  • Concrete Flooring

This type of flooring is considered as the greenest flooring option available in the market today. It has gained considerable popularity over the years and made its mark as one of the most sustainable flooring options because of its low maintenance and other benefits. Concrete flooring is available in various colors and finishes from which you can choose the perfect match for your home interior.
